Monica Galetti, (pictured with Ben Walgate CEO Gusbourne Estates) whose aunt serves in the US army said “I’m simply a cook and a mother. If I can use my skills to support our service men and women who put their lives on the line for us; that is the least I can do. City guests including Jefferies, Canaccord Genuity and Goldman Sachs mingled with veterans from three generations; key note speaker John Nichol, POW of the 1st Gulf War; Charles Clarke, 92, WWII POW from Stalag Luft III, famous for “The Great Escape” and Andy Reid triple amputee who served in Afghanistan.
Air Chief Marshall Sir Stephen Dalton spoke about the need to support our service men and women, whilst Alderman Tim Hailes, Managing Director, Legal, JP Morgan Investment Banking spoke of the City’s great tradition of philanthropy and strong links with the armed forces community at the reception to launch the countdown to the City’s Finest Charity Banquet: Square Mile Salute in partnership with The Birley Clubs – taking place on 24th September at Guildhall, supporting veterans charities, Combat Stress, The Royal British Legion, SkillForce, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund and Soldiering On Through Life Trust.
