Respected artist Barry John MBE – a former soldier and professional painter who was awarded the MBE for his work in the field of art, community and mental health, started painting when he was a soldier, and his military travels have significantly shaped his work.
Thursday saw the City’s great and good come together once again to raise a glass and funds for those who put their lives on the line for us.

The Soldiering On Awards encourage support for the UK’s Armed Forces Community by nationally recognising the achievements of individuals who have overcome adversity and often unsung groups and organisations that support this community.
SkillForce is a national education charity that works with schools to transform lives. The charity currently supports young people in 200 primary and secondary schools across England, Wales and Scotland, preparing them for their next steps in education, work or training.
The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund is the only charity dedicated to supporting children whose parents work, or have worked for the Naval Service.

Kerry Ellis has fast become recognized as the First Lady of West End musicals from her starring roles in London and on Broadway, she has also achieved chart-topping success as a recording artist with her debut album Anthems.
Following their fantastic performance in the Arena di Verona, she will be touring with Brian May in Italy in February 2016.

Cassidy Little, who “loved Afghanistan so much I left a leg behind to continue to kick ass”, winner of The People’s Strictly for Comic Relief, returning to his first love of performing, to host Square Mile Salute.

Armed Forces Week saw MasterChef: The Professionals judge Monica Galetti toast the launch of 2015 Square Mile Salute at Annabel’s with Kings Fine Foods caviar and Gusbourne English sparkling Wine. Supporting Combat Stress, SkillForce, The Royal British Legion, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund and Soldiering On Through Life Trust.
John Nichol was shot down over Iraq during the first Gulf War in 1991. Captured and tortured, he was paraded on TV providing one of the most iconic images of that conflict. Nearly 25 years after the war, John will tell his astonishing, enthralling and moving story of war, and discuss how his life has been shaped by those events.
In the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) all six of Gusbourne Estate’s wines have been awarded either Gold or Silver medals. Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs (2010) and Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs Late Disgorged (2007), were both awarded ‘Gold Outstanding’ medals – the highest IWSC medal honour.
Benjamin Fifita Makisi, dubbed “The Tenor of the Pacific” and “The Polynesian Pavarotti” who sang for the ANZAC Military Tattoo in Australia will be performing for us at this year’s Square Mile Salute.
